The Hermitage Museum and Gardens, formerly home to the Sloane family, is an early twentieth-century Arts and Crafts estate located on the shore of the Lafayette River in Norfolk. We will have a guided tour of its nationally recognized art collection, which spans 5,000 years. In addition to the contemporary exhibition galleries, there are working artist studios as well as twelve acres of gardens and grounds to explore. Our next stop will be the recently reopened Chrysler Museum of Art. The two new wings house expanded galleries for American and European painting and sculpture and an expanded glass collection. We will be treated to a glass blowing demonstration before our lunch and guided tour.
