Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate ConceptionWho knew that Washington, D.C., has the largest Roman Catholic Church in the United States and one of the ten largest in the world? We will have a guided tour highlighting some of the gleaming mosaics and marble statuary in some of the seventy chapels. You can do a little pre-holiday shopping in its extensive gift store before lunch in the cafeteria. On our way home we will stop by the Daughters of the American Revolution Museum for a guided tour of the newly opened exhibition Eye on Elegance: Early Quilts of Maryland and Virginia as well as a visit to the Virginia period room and their main exhibition galleries.
