Scope Note: The collection includes constitutions and by-laws, minute books of members' and officers' meetings, annual reports, programs, bulletins, scrapbooks, and miscellaneous materials concerning the operations, programs, and activities of the club and its members, and information on the preservation of the club's headquarters, the Bolling Haxall House in Richmond, Va. Founded in 1894 by fourteen leading women of Richmond, Va., the Woman's Club was designed to enhance the cultural and intellectual lives of its members. Over the years, the club has annually attracted prominent authors, scholars, artists, and performers to Richmond to present programs on literary criticism and current events, along with presentations of music and drama.

Annual reports (printed): all reports contain a letter or notice from the outgoing president reviewing events of the preceding year, as well as reports from various chairpersons. A directory of members is also published in each annual volume. In 1942 the club began to issue yearbooks with this basic information, but also including listings of programs, speakers, and other information; annual reports (strictly the reports of committee chairs) continued to be printed separately in later years.

Volumes: Scrapbooks (filed on open shelves): contents of the earliest scrapbooks consist primarily of newspaper clippings concerning the club and its activities, and club members. In later years, the books contain many photographs of club members, functions, and the club headquarters itself (Bolling Haxall House, Richmond), ballots from the elections of officers, and membership directories. From time to time, announcements concerning renovations to the Haxall House appear, along with notices and background information concerning guest speakers and other programs.
